Kogi PoliceThe police in Nigeria have rescued an American citizen, a House of Representatives aspirant, Donald Iwuagwu and three others kidnapped in Port Harcourt the Rivers State’s capital.

The rescue operation was carried out in the late hours of the night on Thursday by the Rivers State Police Command and the US government.

It was an emotional situation, when the the Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature, confirmed the rescue to reporters and sounded a note of warning to kidnappers to be on the run.

He said that the police in the south-south state would leave no stone unturned to track down down all kidnappers.

The rescued victims, who were visibly shaken, narrated their ordeals in the hands of the kidnappers.

For Donald Iwuagwu, an aspirant to the House of Representatives, it was a facebook discussion with someone who claimed to be Liyel Imoke, the governor of Cross River, that landed him in the net of the kidnappers.

Though still in shock, he expressed happiness that the police came to their rescue.

Kidnap cases in Nigeria’s south-south had reduced since police intensified counter operations to check the activities of kidnappers in the region.
