prof. AwosikaThe Rector, Olawoye Awosika School of Innovative Studies, Prof. Abiola Awosika, has recommended a change in the Nigerian education curriculum.

She said that if Nigeria wants to be globally recognized in the sector, it must admit that its present academic curriculum would not get it there.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise, Prof. Awosika stated that most university students do not practise what they have studied in the university because of their inability to justify their training with workplace productivity.

She stated that employers find these graduates unemployable because the quality of knowledge they offer do not add value in the real world outside school.

“It is a problem when graduates are given exams to write by their employers and they cannot put pen to paper for hours, its a big problem.”

She noted that this problem has to be solved from the creche and not at the tertiary or university level.

Prof. Awosika, in further questioning the present curriculum and emphasizing the need for it to be changed, also added that it does not accommodate children living with difficulties, whose needs are special and must be accommodated in a proper educational system.

Prof. Awosika defined education as a way of being streetwise, knowing your way around your studies and Nigeria would need to appreciate this in order to forge ahead in building a better educational system.
