Super Eagles Lose 0-1 To Sudan In AFCON Qualifier Match

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have lost to the Sudanese side on Saturday in an away qualifier match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The defeat pushed the Stephen Keshi-led team to the bottom of Group A with 1 point, making Nigeria’s chance of qualifying for the AFCON tournament that will hold in Morocco slimmer.

Bakri Abdulgadir scored the only goal of the match for the Sudanese side in the 42-minute of the game.

The Saturday game started with great expectations that the Super Eagles will defeat the Sudanese side, but the first seven minutes of the game showed they were a hard nut to crack for the Eagles.

Determined to win the Nigerian side, the hosts had a grip of the game, controlling the ball well, as they sought the historic win. The last time Sudan defeated Nigeria was in 1967.

At the 15th minute of the game, John Obi Mikel tried a shot from a distant. Though close and dangerous, the ball hits the side net.

The Super Eagles Emenike continued to put pressure on the Sudanese defence, got several chances but could not convert them.

The Eagles looked so fit but were unable to go deep into the Sudanese defense line.

At the 42nd minute the Sudanese side got the cracker when Bakri Abdulgadir header found the back of the net, beating goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

The goal was enough to give the home side victory in the first leg of the qualifier match against the Super Eagles.

In the other group A match held earlier in the day, Congo were defeated by South Africa 0-2.

Bafana Bafana top the group with 7 points after three games, Congo is in the second position with Six points while Sudan has three points. Nigeria is at the bottom of the group with 1 point.
