Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, on Tuesday evening, stormed a local market along Lafia-Shemdam road, shooting sporadically into the market.
According to an eye witness who craved anonymity, the Fulani herdsmen came attacking the Lafia market with automatic rifles, burning shops, goods and destroyed over six vehicles at the market.
The Ashangwa market located in an Eggon community before Asakyo in Lafia East Development Area, is said to be the target of the assailants who ensured no business activity took place there.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of Nasarawa Command, Umar Nuuman, said that some armed men trailed a vehicle and subsequently opened fire on it.
Details of the Lafia market attack remain sketchy as he said that the joint security committee has restored normalcy in the state with investigation on going.
