Gombe_BombingThe people of Gombe state in Nigeria’s north-east region are picking up the pieces, a day after triple bomb explosions at a bus station left scores of people dead.

While the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) put the death toll at nine, early on Friday, hospital sources and eyewitness accounts say that between 24 and 30 people may have died while about 37 people sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, the police say they have arrested three suspects in connection with the bombing, which occurred even after the government said it had reached a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram terrorist group

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the Friday bombing, the Boko haram sect is the prime suspect. They have carried out series of similar attack in the past.

The Gombe state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kudu Nma, said a vehicle with an inscription ‘Yobe Line’ was said to have brought the suspected bombers to the park.

According to Mr Nma, the vehicle, which they supposedly came in with, has been recovered, while the suspects were arrested as they attempted to flee.

The explosion had occurred at a time when many passengers were at the park boarding vehicles to various destinations.
