The House of Representatives has assured the residents of Amanyelu and Umuagwo communities in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State that the Owerri-Elele road which connects the communities to neighboring cities, would be completed soon.
An early 2015 completion date has been projected for the 35 Kilometer stretch road which was awarded in 2009 for 23billion naira.
The House of Reps members were on a scheduled visit to the road led by the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha.
Honourable Ihedioha disclosed that the Federal Government was keen on delivering the road in early 2015 and in order to fast track the completion of the road, the House of Representatives would appropriate more funds in the 2015 budget to enable the contractor complete the job in due time.
The deplorable state of the road bellied the fact that it had been scheduled for a makeover about 5 years ago but the makeover, which seemed to have only taken place on office papers has made motorists consider it a death trap.
The contractor handling the road project, Mohammed El- Edadaros, told the lawmakers that he would get back to work after the rainy season and promised completion of the road before the end of the first quarter of 2015.
The 35 kilometers stretch Elele-Owerri road connects Imo State to the South-South region through Rivers and Bayelsa states.
