Rochas OkorochaThe governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reschedule the Continuous Voters Registration in the state because of the huge technical faults encountered during the process.

Governor Okorocha made the demand on Friday while addressing a crowd of protesters at the Imo International Conference Centre.

Indigenes of Imo state had launched a protest against the ongoing registration exercise and the distribution of Permanent Voters Card.

The protesters had stormed the INEC headquarters along Port Harcourt road in Owerri, the Imo State capital, carrying placards with various inscriptions and accusing INEC of attempting to disenfranchise citizens of the state in the forthcoming elections.

Governor Okorocha said there was the need for INEC to cancel the registration exercise in the state because it had encountered a lot of hiccups and challenges.

He said: “INEC should go back and get their hearts together and reschedule for a new registration exercise”.

More than 80 per cent of the indigenes have not been able to collect the Permanent Voters Card and even the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration is experiencing huge technical fault.
