Al-makuraNasarawa State, Governor Tanko Al-makura and the Police authority are yet to confirm any casualty incidence, three days after the rumoured killing of Baba Alakio, the spiritual leader of the Ombatse militia and several others who were killed in the on-going violence in the state.

This is coming days after fighting broke out in Lafia and other settlement over the Alakio attack, prompting reprisal attack where over 18 people have been allegedly killed, according to eyewitness account.

The Governor, in company of security chiefs and heavy fire power, visited Tudun Gwandara along UAC, Kwandere and Shabu settlements, the worst hit areas, to ascertain the level of destruction.

However, all that have not yielded any confirmation of casualty figures and the alleged killing of Baba Alakio, as according to the government, the security report it was relying on had no proof of casualties just yet.

Governor Al-makura, while consoling some of the affected communities in Hausa language, assured them of government’s commitment to ending the violence.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Theodore Ugochukwu, also appealled to all concerned parties to give peace a chance, saying no official report on the casualty figure was ready.

While about eight people were feared dead on Sunday in Lafia and Shabu, seven Ombatse militia were reportedly killed in a gun battle with Kambari armed groups at Tudun Gwandara along UAC Road, with three others killed at Shabu on Monday morning.

For the Eggon tribe, the invasion of Alakio shows the commitment of Fulani herdsmen to rid the Eggon tribe of the Arikya, Alakio, Ashangwa and Gidan Gambo planes.

Residents of Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday, remained on high alert as security agencies work to contain the crisis.

Many, however, have fled the state capital with reported violence going on along Doma Road.
