Nigeria market Food StuffAs Christian faithful across the world prepare to celebrate this year’s Christmas on Thursday, traders and transporters in Oshogbo, the osun state Capital are lamenting low patronage‎ they have experienced.

Traders, who attributed the low patronage of customers to the poor economic situation in Nigeria, however, expressed hope, that ‎there may be improvement in the sales before the year runs out.

Our correspondent, who went round Oshogbo metropolis, reported that despite the much publicised poor economic situation, people were set for the celebration as many were seen at motor parks returning to Oshogbo and others going out of town.

Although, transporters said the fare was not increased, they also attested to the fact that the turnout was very low when compared with the usual busy Christmas in the past.

According to traders, the purchase of foodstuff had dropped.

In the capital city, traffic congestion was experienced on the major roads.

By and large, residents are looking forward to a fulfilling holiday seasons with their loved ones, just as they are hoping for a positive change in the ‎economic situation of the country.

The traders believed that the devaluation of the Naira by the Central Bank of Nigeria may have contributed to the low patronage and more money can only purchase very few items in the market.
