Goodluck_Jonathan_President_of_Nigeria_New_Year_Speech_President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega to ensure that all eligible Nigerians who registered to vote are provided with their Permanent Voters Cards.

At the swearing in of the new National Commissioner of INEC, representing Oyo state, President Goodluck Jonathan said no Nigerian should be disenfranchised because of his inability to get the PVC.

“All Nigerians must vote”, he added.

On his part, Prof. Jega promised that every Nigerian would be provided with a PVC before the general elections.

This is following a statement by INEC that it will not distribute the Permanent Voter Card in 15 out of the 25 local government areas in Borno state, owing to the activities of the Boko Haram sect, which had captured the 15 affected councils.

The statement was made by Resident Electoral Commissioner, in Borno, Prof. Tukur Sa’ad who said the commission would distribute the PVCs starting from Friday, and will carry out the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in 12 local government areas in the state.

He had explained that the security of INEC and other ad hoc staff in Borno could not be guaranteed, hence the decision.

However, President Goodluck Jonathan has mandated the agency to ensure that all eligible citizens get their PVCs in time for the elections next month.
