_80200127_80200054As stars and filmmakers made a grand show of their support for free speech and the rights of all, a pair of personal films, “Boyhood” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” took the top movie prizes Sunday night at the 72nd Golden Globes.

“The bottom line is that we’re all flawed in this world, no one’s perfect,” said Richard Linklater in accepting an award for directing “Boyhood,” which a few minutes later would receive the prize for best dramatic film.

The movie, which took 12 years to make, won best film drama, with Linklater named best director and Patricia Arquette best supporting actress.

Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel was named best comedy or musical film, with Amy Adams named best actress in a comedy or musical for her role in Big Eyes.

British actor Eddie Redmayne won best actor in a drama for his role as physicist Professor Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything”.

The awards, which cover both film and TV, saw Froggatt win best supporting actress in a TV series for her role as the maid Anna Bates in Downton Abbey.

There was also a running joke with actress Margaret Cho, playing a North Korean general who was not happy with the way the awards show was progressing.
