Suicide Bomber Targets Politician, Kills 6 In Yobe

Suicide bomber in PotiskumNo fewer than six people have been killed in a fresh suicide bomb attack in Potiskum, Yobe State north east Nigeria, residents say.

Potiskum has of recent become prone to suicide bomb attacks as several lives have been lost by bombers believed to be members of the radical sect, Boko Haram.

Witnesses said the explosions occurred around 1:20 Sunday afternoon in front of Sabo Garbu’s residence, located opposite the Federal Government College, Potiskum.

Sabo Garbu is the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Potiskum/Nangere federal constituency in Yobe state for the 2015 general elections.

Residents said the bomber came to the residence of the politician and detonated the explosive device.

Several party supporters were there at the time the explosive went off, killing six on the spot with several others sustaining injuries.

Authorities are yet to confirm the incident but hospital authorities said six corpses were brought to the hospital with several others injured.

The hospital source who pleaded anonymity said they were still receiving victims from the scene of the blast.

In this year alone, about 50 people have been killed in Potiskum.

45 students were killed by a suicide bomber on January 10 while another attack at the Global Systems Communications Market, close to a primary school killed five on January 18.
