The blast occurred on Sunday around 12:20pm local time when a female suicide bomber blew herself off, killing some passengers and merchants at the Damaturu central motor park.

Governor Gaidam stressed the need for community vigilance while sympathising with victims of the bomb blast at the park that killed 10 people.

The governor, who visited the victims of the bomb blast currently receiving treatment at the specialist’s hospital in Damaturu the state capital, was conducted round by the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Mohammed Bello Kawuwa.

Dr kawuwa said 86 victims were brought to the hospital with various degrees of injuries.

Ten of the victims urgently needed highly specialised care and were subsequently referred to the Medical Centre in Nguru. Some were later referred to Kano for more specialised care.

Dr. Kawuwa also said all those brought to the hospital were treated free, in line with the policy of the present state’s administration.

The commissioner, however, said the death toll had increased from eight to 10, as some of the victims did not make it.

Governor Gaidam expressed regret over the attack and called on the people of the state to maintain absolute vigilance if insurgency was to be eradicated completely.

The governor further condemned the suicide bombing and called on residents to collaborate with security agents towards ending the wave of attacks.

Gaidam also directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to take inventory of all loses, promising that the government would take necessary action towards compensation.

After the visit to the hospital, Governor Gaidam visited the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) where he also sympathised with the union over the incidence and assured them of every support.
