EbonyiThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Council of Elders in Ebonyi State has reprimanded the State Governor, Mr Martin Elechi, accusing him of trying to cause disunity in the PDP and behind the political crisis in the state.

At a news conference in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, South East Nigeria, the Chairman of the PDP Council of Elders in the state, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, said that the Governor should stop pretending to be a member of the PDP when his entire cabinet has moved to the Labour Party.

The Council of Elders said that since the Governor broke the principle enshrined in the Charter of Equity, it became impossible to condone the Governor’s autocratic stance.

They said that the Governor was on his own in the present predicaments – the impeachment move – as they would not dabble into the functions of the legislature in the state.

The council advised Governor Martin Elechi to desist from dragging the name of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator Anyim Pius Anyim into the present crisis in the state, as the SGF has nothing to do with his woes.

However, in reaction to the alleged plot to impeach the Governor, hundreds of protesters have stormed the streets of the Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital on Monday.

The anti-impeachment protesters converged on the Government House asking that those behind the impeachment process desist from such action.
