Mr. Ford was reportedly piloting a single-engine plane that crashed into a golf course in Vehicle, near the Santa Monica Municipal Airport.
Mr. Ford, 72, suffered multiple gashes to his head and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“We can confirm that there was a plane crash and the male occupant was a 65-70 years old man. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition,” Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Nuria Vanegas said.
The incident, according to reports was due to mechanical failure of plane, Vanegas said.
Mr. Ford, best known for his roles in blockbusters Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, is a longtime aviation enthusiast.
