Jonathan Mbeki and AbdulsalamiThe Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, a former South African President, Thabo Mbeki and a former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar were seen on Sunday afternoon at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

All three men met behind closed door right inside the president’s official resident at Aso Rock.

Ordinarily, one may have passed it for a friendly visit, but considering that two former leaders and a serving president are involved, then one’s curiosity is understandable especially being an election year.

None of them spoke with reporters at the end of the meeting, but it may not be unconnected with the second term bid of President Jonathan.

There were also indications that the need for a peaceful and credible election was discussed.
