Candidates running for National Assembly seats from various political parties across Oyo State have signed the much awaited peace accord promising to maintain peace and dignity of the electoral process in all their undertakings.
Candidates from three geo-political zones in the State namely Ibadan, Oyo and Ogbomosho trooped to various police formations in their zones to append their signature on the peace document.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Musa Katsina, who presided over the event, admonished all who signed and the parties they represent to uphold the law, maintain peace and respect the sanctity of life or face the wrath of the law.
On their part, the candidates who are mostly Senators and House of Representative members promised to do all possible for credible and peaceful polls.
The much awaited peace pact began in Oyo State, taking the Commissioner of Police to three out of the five geo-political zones in the State.
In Ibadan the Oyo State capital, where the peace accord was first signed, the area command at Iwo Road hosted several politicians from various political parties, coming to commit to the peace accord.
The police boss in the State, who presided over the event, told all politicians and their party hierarchy that it would no longer be business as usual after the commitment to peace.
Katsina vowed that every breach of peace would be met with stiff penalties.
At the historic Oyo town, persons vying for Senatorial and House of Representatives seats all appended their signatures to the important document in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operatios, Mr Musa Kimo and promised to abide by it in words and deeds.
The story was not different at Ogbomosho where National Assembly candidates from all the five Local Government Areas in the zone signed and promised to ensure peace during campaigns, during and after elections.
Meanwhile, the peace accord would also be signed by politicians in Oke Ogun and Ibarapa areas of the State during the week ahead.
