The Nasarawa State Government has resolved to source overdraft of over 522 million Naira, to augment allocation from the Federation Account, to pay outstanding salaries of Local Government staff.
The decision was reached between the Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Tanko Al-makura and the leadership of the organise labor and workers in the state, to resolve the impasse created over non-payment of February salaries.
Briefing journalist after the private meeting held in the Governor’s office on Monday, the Commissioner for Government Affairs, noted that efforts are being made to prevent further borrowing by government to pay salaries.
There has been financial pressure on most State Governors to meet salary obligations to workers, following the poor turn of crude oil price, leading to low remittances and allocation to the three tiers of government.
