Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has debunked recent reports in a section of the media which claimed that his administration was owing 600million naira.
The governor made the clarification while speaking to journalists in Uyo, the State capital.
Describing the said reports as false and misleading, Akpabio explained that only last year, the State House of Assembly gave approval for the borrowing of a maximum of N80 billion to aid the completion of ongoing projects.
He added that so far, more than N30 billion naira had already been repaid.
He noted that this remains the only debt owed by the state government.
According to Akpabio, the decision to obtain the loan was borne out of his administration’s resolve to complete ongoing people oriented projects to add value to the lives of the masses in the state, stressing that the exercise followed due process.
The Governor gave an assurance that as a responsible government, his administration would not leave any debt for the next administration.
