pdp-apc-1The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has accused the main opposition party in the state – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – of sponsoring a protest.

The protest was staged in the commercial city on Monday, as posters and billboards belonging to the APC governorship candidate were allegedly vandalized.

The APC spokesperson in the state, Mr Joe Igbokwe, said in a press conference on Tuesday, that the protest was mobilised because the PDP has no hope of manipulating the coming elections, adding that Nigerians now have a strong will to effect change.

However in a swift reaction, the PDP spokespersman, Mr Ganiyu Taofeek, condemned the allegation, saying  “it is very unfortunate that people who have the right to assemble and express themselves will now be tagged as being sponsored, by who? Is that the issue? That is irrelevant.

“I am not going to hold brief on whether they vandalised or not, I was not there, I did not participate, my party was not involved in the mobilisation”, he said, maintaining that such act is not in the tradition of the PDP.

Earlier on Monday, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) stormed the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, demanding the sack of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, before the general elections.

The protesters blocked the major highways causing a heavy traffic jam while harassing pedestrians and motorists.
