Bayelsa

bayelsaThe Governor of Bayelsa state,  Seriake Dickson has mandated the state-owned Izon-Ibe Security Company to engage the youths in providing pipeline surveillance services.

The Governor disclosed this at the 26th meeting of the State Security Council in Yenagoa. He also debunked claims made by some ex-militants that, his government has hijacked the pipeline surveillance project, which was meant for them to execute.

Every Bayelsa youth who is interested in providing security for these very important pipelines should be given an opportunity under the supervision of the State owned Security Company.

In his opening remarks, Governor Seriake Dickson explained that rather allow few persons to benefit at the expense of the generality of youths in the State, the security outfit would drive a community-based recruitment process to engage willing and able youths to secure pipelines and other oil facilities.

Governor Dickson called on the youths to be wary of disgruntled elements, who just want to use them as cannon fodders to achieve their selfish interests and create crisis in the State.

Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Okafor emphasized the need for aggrieved individuals or groups to explore legitimate means to express their grievances rather than threaten to cause breakdown of law and order.

The Police Commissioner, while advising the youths to shun violence and other vices, reaffirmed the commitment of the security agencies to maintaining the existing peace in Bayelsa State.

It was also announced that the security company would soon call for applications from interested youths at the grassroots, particularly oil producing communities and give them the requisite training that would enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
