SDPThe leadership of the Ogun state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied any merger plan with any political party ahead of the governorship election.

Akin Odunsi, accompanied by his running mate, Segun Adesegun, and the party chairman, Olu Agemo, made this clear at a press conference held at Iwe-Iroyin, Press Centre, Abeokuta, the state capital, described the alleged merger as “malicious, unfounded, baseless and a wild imagination which could only have existed in the authors mind.

“Today, we wish to put the record straight on some wicked news items that rented the airwaves two days ago. It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous elements are out to damage our party’s credibility, image and integrity, hence, this press briefing,” Mr. Odunsi said.

“I state categorically and emphatically that our party has neither the intention nor plan to merge with any political party. So there is no iota of truth in the damaging news item which we in SDP describe as malicious, unfounded, baseless and a wild imagination which could only have existed in the authors mind,” he said.

He further stated that the party has the capacity to run against others in the election, insisting that they need no merger to wrestle power from the ruling government.
