Vehicle recovered from Boko HaramThe military in Nigeria says it is on the verge of totally wiping out the Boko Haram terrorist group from the nation’s north-east.

A spokesman for the Defence Headquarters, Major General Chris Olukolade, gave the assurance on Thursday after touring more of the recovered territories, including Gwoza, said to be the last bastion of the Boko Haram to be recaptured.

Major General Olukolade, said that troops are currently making sure that the recovered territories were stabilised and life in those areas returns to normal.

“The area left to be captured are very minimal and what is important now is the stabilisation of the territories taken back and the mopping up operations,” Major General Olukolade said.

He explained that the media tour was organised to make public the level of atrocities committed by the terrorists before they vacated those places.

The defence spokesman also allayed fears of the possibility of the terrorists regrouping, saying that “the presence of the Multi-National Joint Task Force would prevent that”.

Counter-terrorism operations against the Boko Haram had heightened after the Nigerian government took delivery of some military equipment from South Africa and Russia.

After Nigeria’s election was postponed by six weeks on February 7, the military cleared terrorists from Adamawa and Yobe States.

The military is pushing to clear Borno State of terrorists in the next few weeks, according to the military spokesman.
