INECIn Rivers State, a house belonging to the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Mrs Joeba West, has been reportedly set ablaze in Buguma.

Reports reaching us also say that the INEC Registration Area Center, RAC, in Kalabari National College, KNC, Buguma has also been set on fire.

The arsonists are also said to have burnt a police patrol vehicle also in Buguma.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Hassan Karma, confirmed the incident.

According to him, a reasonable number of armed men invaded registration area centre in Buguma shooting sporadically. They also used dynamites.

He explained that due to the  nature of the election as keenly contested there are bound to be skirmishes and indeed have been disagreements among party agents on modalities as well as the location of certain electoral materials.

“So far so good there were few cases of not really ballot snatching but alleged (case of) document being incomplete and we have advised both parties where such disagreement arises to refer their differences to INEC.

“Ours is to create a level playing ground, allow each and every voter to cast his or her vote and ensure the safety of lives and property. So far we have tried our best.”

There had been reports earlier in the day that some youths in Obiakpor have alleged that they saw some persons carting away election materials very early in the morning.

The youths then insisted there would be no election in Obiakpor because what they had been provided with are fake election materials.

The CP, however, said that calm has returned to all areas of the state.
