Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, has been declared winner of the just concluded election in the country by the election committee on Monday.
According to the committee, President al-Bashir polled a total of 94.5 per cent of the vote in the election held earlier in April.
President al-Bashir, who is the incumbent President of Sudan is also the head of the National Congress Party.
The 71-year-old President assumed office in 1989 when he led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup as a brigadier in the Sudanese Army, that ousted the government of Sudanese former Prime Minister, Sadiq al-Mahdi.
However, with an objection from the main opposition parties in Sudan, he looks ready to tighten his grip.
