SpeakerThe House of Representatives in Nigeria says there is an urgent need for proper rehabilitation and integration of women and children rescued by Nigerian Armed Forces from the Sambisa Forest.

After deliberations on a motion by Honourable Friday Itulah on Wednesday, the House resolved to have its Committee on Disaster Preparedness ascertain the steps so far taken to ensure the speedy rehabilitation of victims of the insurgency in the north-east.

Some of the lawmakers who gave their opinions on the matter said everything should be done for the proper rehabilitation of these victims.

In the last two weeks, women and children in their hundreds have been rescued by the Nigerian Armed Forces from Sambisa Forest, a stronghold of the Boko Haram terrorists.

Some of the rescued persons have been handed over to the National Emergency Management Agency by the military, with the agency promising to take care of them.

But the lawmakers are calling for clear help and proper care for the traumatised victims.

The House Committee on Disaster Preparedness mandated to liaise with the National Emergency Management Agency are expected to ascertain the true number of the victims and steps.

The members are to report back to the House in one week.
