The main organising committee of the Channels National Kids Cup has announced that ‘Season Seven’ of the competition would be used to promote football and education in schools.
During the flag-off ceremony held on Thursday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos State, the chairman of the committee, Steve Judo, said the TV station was fully committed to developing grassroots football in Nigeria.
Judo said: “Season Seven will bring a lot of excitement. We want to give the kids an opportunity to play football, create team bonding and make new friends. We want to give them a good experience to take back to school”.
Members of the Nigeria Football Federation, Youth Committee, led by 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi, were also present at a press briefing held on Thursday.
Mr Akinwunmi told the boys to love their education same way they love football.
“I must commend Channels Television for doing a great job and I know this competition will keep getting better. The Nigeria Football Federation will keep supporting the station’s efforts towards developing grassroots football,” Akinwunmi said.
Before the draw ceremony, the jerseys for the tournament were unveiled and handed over to the teams.
Sixteen teams from different parts of Nigeria will feature at the tournament in a round robin format.
