The Speaker of House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, says the 8th Assembly will focus on the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) once the House commences legislative business.
The Speaker made the promise at a meeting with civil society organizations at the National Assembly.
The Convener of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo, while congratulating the Speaker on his election, said that they want to put several draft legislation before the House.
He itemized a number of issues that they would want the House to make priority, including the Petroleum Industry Bill.
The Speaker agreed that their suggestions were important and that the House would put them on the front burner.
Hon. Dogara also met with officials of the British High Commission and further clarified the plans of the House as regards the PIB.
Led by the Political Counsellor at the British High Commission, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, the team expressed their readiness to work with and support the House of Representatives.
Speaker Dogara spoke about his concern for transparency on the issue of the salaries and allowances of lawmakers.
He told both groups that the House of Representatives is determined to address other key issues such as the country’s budgetary process and other challenges confronting Nigerians.
