Akwa Ibom bad roadsAkwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has called on the Federal Government to rehabilitate the Calabar-Itu Road to save it from gully erosion which is seriously threatening its existence.

The governor made the call when he inspected one of the erosion sites along the road.

Calabar-Itu road is a Federal Road and the only major link between Akwa Ibom and Cross River as well as a gateway to the north.

It is of high economic importance as goods and services are moved through it to other parts of the country.

However, the road is under serious threat from golly erosion which has eaten deep into parts of it.

On an unscheduled visit to Enen Afaha axis of the road, Governor Udom Emmanuel, who described the situation as very serious and requiring urgent action, called on the Federal Government to intervene in order to save the road from total collapse.

The Senator representing Uyo Senatorial district, where the area belongs, Bassey Albert Akpan, promised to draw the attention of the National Assembly to the problem in order to find a lasting solution to it.

The governor was accompanied to the site by his deputy, the Secretary ti the State Government and other key government officials.
