The Agency gave the remark at a forum with electricity distribution companies put together by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company in Rivers State.
It observed that the country’s generation, transmission and distribution companies account for less than one per cent of its Gross Domestic Product.
Energy experts at the forum also pointed out that energy theft is the major challenge to the provision of energy and consumption in Nigeria.
Lack of a functional metering system was identified as one of the major issues responsible for this.
As the nation seeks to improve on its power supply, many of the experts advised that developing the generation and transmission capacity as well as ensuring adequate metering system is the way to go.
