Insufficient Funding Caused Digital Broadcast Transmission Failure - NBCThe National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has attributed its failure to facilitate transmission switch over from analogue to digital broadcast transmission in Nigeria to insufficient funding.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU), which is the global telecoms regulatory body had set June 17, 2015 as the deadline for the switchover from analogue to digital broadcast transmission, but the NBC failed to meet the deadline.

There is no date set yet, for the migration from analogue to digital broadcast transmission in Nigeria.

Nigerians had anticipated the switch over which obviously comes with its many advantages, which include clarity of programmes, quality of signals and contents, as well as spectrum efficiency.

In an interview with Channels Television, the former Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Peter Igho, revealed that the successful migration from analogue to digital transmission in the industry was in dire need of funding by the government and political will.

In the same vein, Chairman of Digiteam Nigeria, Edward Amana, noted that quality content development goes beyond technology.

Digitisation is the direction for broadcast industry globally, and according to experts, the earlier Nigeria moves to make it a reality, the better, otherwise the nation may be left behind in the technological broadcast advancement.
