Unpaid Salaries: Osun To Pay Workers By End Of JuneThe Osun State Government has assured its Civil Servants and Pensioners that it would pay the remunerations owed them by the end of June.

With the development, civil servants and pensioners in Osun State, south-west Nigeria, may have cause to heave a sigh of relief.

The government made the pronouncement through the Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboyega Famodun, at a conference on Wednesday in Osogbo, the Osun State’s capital.

At the gathering of the APC leadership and members, Mr Famodun appealed to the workers to maintain calm, as the financial crisis would soon come to an end.

Donate Food Items To Workers

Although the APC Chairman assured the workers that they would be paid before the end of the month, he was silent on how many months the government could afford to offset.

He attributed the inability of the Osun State government to pay workers in the last eight months to the drop in the Federal Allocation.

With the assurance given by the Osun State government and after a closed door meeting held with the leadership of the workforce, the workers expressed optimism of an end to the eight months of unpaid salaries, but not without some reservations.

In anther development, the Chairperson, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ilesa Branch, M‎argeret Odebode and NUT Chairman, Ile Ife Branch, Tunde Akintilebo, revealed that Mosques, Churches and Philanthropists had continued to donate food items to the workers.

It is few days to the end of June and with several meetings ongoing between the Federal Government and the Osun State Government, the pensioners and workers could only pray that their entitlements be paid soon to bring an end to the one month industrial action in the state.

At a meeting between State Governors and President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, the Federal Government promised to pay back to the State Government monies expended on Federal Government’s projects.

The Governors were also asked to look inwards and boost Internally Generated Revenue to ensure that they meet the State Governments’ salary obligation to workers.
