sule_lamidoThe former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and his two sons are seeking bail before Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Alhaji Lamido, his sons, Aminu and Mustapha and Aminu Abubakar are facing a 28-count charge of corruption and money laundering brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Last Wednesday, Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Kano Federal High Court had ordered that the four accused persons be remanded in the Kano Prison until September 28 when their bail applications would be heard because they lacked enough facilities to accommodate them.

However, his counsels approached the vacation judge in the Abuja Federal High Court to hear the bail application.

The travails of the Lamidos began in 2012 when Aminu was arrested by operatives of the EFCC at Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, for failing to declare a sum of $ 40,000.

The former governor was arraigned alongside his children for allegedly receiving N1.351 billion kickback from a government contractor.

He was prosecuted and convicted with 50 percent of the undeclared sum forfeited to the Federal Government.
