DSSThe Department of State Security, the DSS has been explaining their actions regarding the several hours of siege laid in the home of the former National Security Adviser, Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

The DSS, in a statement says the operation of the day which warranted the agency to embark on the search on his properties was based on a credible intelligence linking Colonel Dasuki with an alleged plan to commit treasonable felony against the Nigerian State.

Colonel Dasuki was said to have resisted the operations by the use of the military operatives guarding his home, even after the presentation of a duly signed search warrant.

The DSS explained that the delay in getting into the former NSA’s home stretched the operations from what should have taken just about two hours to over ten hours.

After the search operations, the DSS said that it found seven high caliber rifles, several magazines and military related gears.

Also the DSS team said that it also recovered twelve new vehicles, out of which five were bullet proof.

The vehicles, according to the DSS, are all exotic and the former NSA failed to produce evidence of ownership.

The DSS stated further, “The service would want to state categorically that this search operation is not a witch hunt. The service decided to move at this time in line with current management resolve to be proactive and pre-empt individuals with penchant for impunity and lawlessness from putting back the nation to the dark days.

“The service is also aware that the lethal arms and the vehicles recovered were not reflected in Sambo’s handover notes or what could a former NSA be doing with destructive weapons and bullet proof cars which, put together, could disrupt the peace of any city in Nigeria for a while?”

The DSS, however, assured members of the public that it would not trample on the freedom of individuals or groups as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution, and promised to uphold the current administration’s position on transparency, and probity underlined by justice and equity for all Nigerians.
