prof. Joy AgwuNigeria’s handling of the Ebola virus outbreak is still receiving commendation from around the world, this time from the United Nations Security Council.

The council members at a session applauded the nation’s prompt and effective response, containment strategy and implementation and urged continued vigilance and improvement on response strategies to keep the disease at bay.

The President of the Council and a Nigerian, Professor Joy Agwu, expressed satisfaction over the development, recognising regional collaborations of the African Union and ECOWAS in fighting the disease, which she describes as a security threat.

She noted that the Ebola disease became a security threat to the world, Africa and Nigeria.

“A programme of work for the month of our presidency, we want ted to highlight the question of Ebola and to make sure it is on the front burner within the international community to make sure that we not only maintain a zero disease but almost at the point where it does not recur,” she said.

She said that UN Council wanted to build linkages between, regional cooperation, considering the nature of the Ebola disease, as a security threat.

Professor Agwu further commended the efforts of other African countries to mobile in the effort to fight back Ebola.
