PDP Schedules Meeting To Address Executive Council Crisis

The Acting National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Nigeria, Uche Secondus

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Uche Secondus, says that the party has scheduled series of meetings to address crisis in the party’s National Executive Council.

Addressing reporters after a meeting of the caucus of the party’s leadership, Mr Secondus said that a caucus of the party would convene several meetings in the weeks ahead to resolve serious party issues involving its leadership.

There have been several agitations from members of the party since the last general elections, calling for the resignation of the party’s national working committee for failing to lead the party to victory at the 2015 polls.

To address the issues, the chieftains of the party met on Friday at the official residence of the Ondo State Governor in Abuja.

One after the other, some chieftains of the PDP filed into the home of the Governor for the meeting.

“Shall Rise Again”

After about five hours behind closed doors, the meeting came to an end. The Acting National Chairman spoke to journalists about the outcome of the meeting.

“We agreed that in the next one week, there will be another caucus meeting to discuss other serious issues.

“All the grievances have been resolved and we are working together towards holding a national conference,” he said.

Others who were in attendance were optimistic about the unity of the party and its coming back to power

A chieftain of the PDP, Anietie Okon, said that the persons at the meeting showed a clear desire to face the truth and the realities of the party’s situation, as a necessary impetus for moving forward.

“Today, we are laying the building blocks for the rebirth of our party. It is going to get back there. The bone shall rise again,” he said.

Much optimism was expressed by the leaders at the meeting but many stalwarts of the party, including state governors and the National Publicity Secretary, the Senate Deputy Leader and the Senate Minority Leader were absent at the meeting.
