The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Samaila Aliyu, has assured soldiers wounded in the ongoing fight against the Boko Haram insurgents in the north-east of adequate care and assistance by the federal government.

He gave the assurance on Friday when he visited wounded soldiers receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

The Permanent Secretary was accompanied to the hospital by senior military officers.

Mr Aliyu said that the purpose of his visit was to comfort the wounded troops and also encourage them for fighting to defend the integrity of Nigeria.

He also told reporters that the visit was to see the state of facilities at the hospital in order to identify areas of improvement.

“Definitely, action will be taken in the next few weeks. We will see wherever the Federal Government will come in, in terms of intervention here.

“The Hospital is very special not only to the army but to the Nigerian government. We will want the hospital to be of international standard,” he told reporters.
