buhariThe Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria has thrown its weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari in his fight against corruption, urging him to do more in ensuring that “corruption, especially in the judiciary, is rid out of Nigeria”.

The National Chairman of the group, Comrade Iso Bassey Edim, made the call in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, while speaking with reporters on Saturday on the activities of some institutions and the political class in the state, which he alleged were geared towards sabotaging the efforts of the President in the anti-graft war.

On the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in the state, the group maintained that justice should prevail.

Mr Edim also frowned against delays at the Tribunal.

According to him, the Tribunal had somehow painted a picture of over indulgence to the respondents, allowing the respondents to over delay the calling of the witnesses and unwarranted order which may hinder the course of justice, as contained in the Nigerian Constitution.

The group, made up of 47 civil society and liberty groups, urged President Buhari not to relent in his efforts toward ensuring that sanity was restored to the judiciary, and all matters tabled before the tribunals reflected the intents of the masses.

President Buhari had on Friday called on the Judiciary to step up its anti-corruption drive to compliment his administration’s war against corruption in Nigeria.
