The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday said the Nigerian Army has keyed into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) as directed by the Federal Government.
He said this has become necessary in line with the government’s change agenda and also in fulfilment of his vision of having a professional and disciplined force.
He added that the TSA, if adopted by the army, would help the force to get maximum benefits and operational efficiency.
He stated that for the army to achieve financial service delivery, those in charge of managing its funds must adopt the Federal Government’s system of using a single account for all its transactions and embracing procedures that would enable the Army to effectively finance its operations across the country.
The army boss while commending the role of the finance corps towards the welfare of troops in different theatre of operations, tasked the officers on the need for effective and prudent management of funds allocated to the Nigerian army for efficient service delivery.
Gen Buratai was speaking during the 10th Biennial Conference of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps held in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.
The theme of the conference is “Impact of Evolving Federal Government Financial Policies on the Operational Roles of the Nigerian Army and Dwindling Budgetary Allocations”.
According to the Chief of Army Staff, the efforts of the army to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in the north east and other related crimes across the country can only be sustained through adequate funding and prudent management of resources.
The Army Chief said the troops are making tremendous progress to eliminate the terrorist group from the region.
Earlier, the Acting Chief of Accounts of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Adeyemi Adetayo, said the Army as a disciplined profession, will train its account personnel to key into the TSA and other economic policies of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
On his part, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Mr Bala Bantex, who represented Governor Nasir El-Rufai, described the conference as timely in line with the current economic realities.
The Nigerian Army Finance Corps conference is held bi-annually, and is aimed at appraising the activities of the Nigerian Army with a view to reviewing them for optimal performance.
