police rivers state cult clashThe Rivers State Police Command has deployed two mobile units amounting to 112 armed and combat ready policemen to Omoku and Obrikom communities to ensure law and order.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, said that his men would stop at nothing to bring criminals to book in the state.

About a week before this, residents of Omoku and Obrikom in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area in Rivers State were thrown into pandemonium as gunmen stormed their communities and unleashed terror on the people.

Eyewitnesses said that both communities became ghost towns as residents fled for safety from the cult clash which they said lasted for two days.

Seven persons were reportedly shot dead in Omoku and six others in Obrikom.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Mohammed, while conforming the incident, said that the Rivers State Police Command was on the trail of the warring parties, reiterating its resolve to maintain its onslaught against criminality in the state.

One week after the incident, some streets and homes were still deserted, but residents said that they have the Police to thank for now.

Part of the measures taken by the Police is that motorcycle riders are only allowed to push their motor bikes around places the Police call nipping points in the area.
