NDDCThe Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it would partner with the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies to ensure that the Commission’s  projects in the region are protected and safe for socioeconomic activities.

The NDDC Managing Director, Barrister Bassey Dan-Abia, while speaking during the visit of the Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Atiku Abdulkadir, to the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, lamented lack of fund to carry out projects that are littered across the Niger Delta region.

The NDDC boss promised to collaborate and partner with the Navy and Air Force to make sure that the creeks, coastal areas of the Niger Delta where the Commission’s projects are in the waterways of the region, are protected.

He noted that the collaboration would create the enabling environment for economic activities to strive and open up windows of opportunities for investors, promote employment generation and development.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) led by Mrs Helen Amachere, thanked the NDDC Managing Director for the Command’s inclusion on the list of NDDC security.

The NDDC contractors forum had earlier planned a protest of none payment by the Commission, but with the intervention of the MD, the round table discussion took place.

The NDDC MD said that the current funding problem facing the Commission has been challenging but also noted that the issue of security cannot be over-emphasised.

Barrister Dan-Abia promised to support and partner with them as soon as the funding situation improves.

The NSCDC had resumed work with the NDDC in addition with the Police, Army and the internal security.
