Reps To Probe FRC Over Corporate Governance Code

Bomb detectorsThe House of Representatives has advocated the use of scanning machines at all entry points into Abuja, the nation’s capital and other major cities in the country.

The lawmakers said that this step would help security officials in the detection of improvised explosive devices that are being used by Boko Haram insurgents.

Of recent, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory had been hit by bomb attacks after over a year since the last attack.

It is a development that called for more proactive steps by security officials to protect the citizens, an issue that came up for consideration in the House of Representatives.

The motion urged the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff to urgently deploy bomb detectors with the capacity for long range coded aperture imaging to the military checkpoints on major routes into Abuja and major cities in the country.

The motion enjoyed the support of most lawmakers.

The lawmakers also considered a motion seeking a resolution to the recurring clashes between farmers and herdsmen in different parts of the country.

They expressed their support for the establishment of settlements for herdsmen as a way of addressing frequent clashes between farmers and cattle rearers.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture was urged to establish settlements for the herdsmen and their cattle, equipped with modern facilities like residential accommodation and to also ensure registration of the herdsmen.

The ministry was also advised to ensure the immediate utilization of the existing grazing reserves and create new ones where they are inadequate.
