According to the police, the decision came after discreet investigations into the abduction of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the subsequent arrest of his suspected abductors, two weeks after his release.
The former presidential candidate was kidnapped from his farm in Ondo State on Monday, September 21 but was subsequently released by his captors on Thursday, September 24.
The Police have filed a five-count charge against the five suspects, who abducted the elder statesman.
A statement released on Friday by the Police said “the IGP, while commending his men for the quick arrest of the suspects, said the Nigeria Police under his leadership will leave no stone unturned at ensuring that all criminals in the country are brought to justice”.
He also solicited Nigerians cooperation and partnership with the Police, stressing that “with credible and quick information, the job of protecting lives and property comes with ease”.
