Obiano Meets Industrialists, Seeks Solution To Recession

obianoAnambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has said that sustainable agricultural development is a sure way the nation can be free from dependency on revenue from oil.

Governor Obiano made the statement on Friday at an agricultural stock-taking in Awka, the capital of the state.

He, however, urged farmers in the state to pull resources together to become suppliers not just to states, but to other countries.

Governor Obiano also promised to increase the rice production index currently at 190 tons to 320 tons by the end of 2016.

Since the drop in the price of crude oil and subsequent reduction in allocations to states from the Federation Account, the need to diversify the nation’s economy away from crude sales to other sectors has led to exploration of states’ agricultural potentials.

Agriculture was the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy prior to the discovery of crude oil and the Anambra State government is making an effort to refocus the  state’s economy.
