NEMA Raises Alarm, Seeks Collaboration Against Flood

NemaThe National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated relief materials to victims of flood and insurgency in Adamawa State.

Director-General of NEMA, Mohammed Sani Sidi, who made the donations to Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla of Adamawa State said that they were in Yola to deliver the relief intervention on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari for onward distribution to the affected people.

The NEMA team was at the Government House in Yola to commiserate with the state government and the NEMA Director-General advised those living in flood prone areas to move to higher grounds. He also advised residents to stop dumping refuge along waterways.

Gov. Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla, who received the donations for the state, appreciated the gesture and promised to distribute the materials judiciously.

The NEMA Director-General and his team were also at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola where he commiserated with victims of last Friday’s mosque bomb blast and wished the people quick recovery.

The team was also at the IDP camp in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Yola where they donated some relief materials.

Items donated include rice, maize, beans, guinea corn and millet. Others are mattresses, mosquito nets, blankets, toiletries, cement, roofing sheets among others.

About 15 local government areas in Adamawa State and over 130,000 people were affected by the flood during the last rainy season coupled with the release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon. Farms were submerged, houses flooded and communities displaced, prompting NEMA to provide the relief materials to the displaced people.
