KogiThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that collation and announcement of results will commence at 6 o’clock on Sunday morning.

This is to give enough time for the results to arrive and to enable those actively involved in the process to get some rest as this will also ensure a smooth running of the exercise on Sunday.

Channels TV correspondent, covering the Kogi election, Lanre Lasisi, reports as at midnight that results were still being expected from all 21 local government areas of Kogi State.

Our Political Correspondent had earlier reported that journalists, party agents, INEC officials and other stakeholders were among the several persons waiting at the INEC headquaters to see which of the 21 local government areas would be the first to arrive at the INEC collation centre with results of votes cast across their localities.

Describing what was expected to be a long night, he noted that some of the Local Governments are about three hours’ drive from Lokoja, the capital city, where the INEC office is located.

There are expectations among citizens with some speculating what the outcome might be. However most of the speculations are based on results within their polling units.

Meanwhile, INEC has warned that results of Kogi governorship election being posted on social media are inaccurate and should be disregarded.

In a message posted earlier on Twitter, INEC said, “Official results will subsequently be announced and the winner of the election declared by the INEC returning officer.”
