Obiano Commissions Daily Road Maintenance Project In Anambra

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has put together 150 youths from across the three senatorial zones of the state to handle a daily road maintenance project.

The youths were fully trained and equipped to see to the maintenance of roads in all the streets and towns in Anambra State in south-east Nigeria.

Speaking at an event in Awka, Governor Obiano said that the initiative was to enhance good roads and safety of lives.

He added that it would also extend the life span of vehicles plying the roads, stressing that there would not be jerks and bumps.

The Governor promised that the youths would be adequately remunerated, but he reminded them to work diligently.

He called on the 21 Local government administrations to be involved and give their support to the youths to make the laudable project work.

Governor Obiano also stressed that the project would be beneficial to the citizens of the state.

He also inspected the mode of operation to ascertain the professionalism of the workers.

After the inspection, he expressed satisfaction with their performance.

In his speech, the Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Azubuike Iloh, said the project would elevate the state to having the best of roads when fully operational at a minimum cost.

The Commissioner for Works, Lawrence Chinwuba, also told the gathering that the project would help in the area of youth empowerment.

To ensure a smooth take off, the Anambra State government also procured different equipment to tackle the job headlong from the simple tools of barrows, head pans and rakes, to the mechanised equipment of cutters, cement mixers, buses, tankers and earth-moving machines.
