Police_Nigeria_Armoured_Personnel_CarrierPolice have apprehended the prime suspects behind the killing of a custom officer who was attacked while on duty along Owerri-Aba expressway road in south-east Nigeria.

The suspects were arrested by officials of the Imo State Police Command.

Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, said the hoodlums attacked a team of custom officers at Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, on assignment, killed one and took away his AK 47 riffle as well as his Mazda 626 saloon car.

Arrested Persons

Having gotten a tip off, the officers of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Command, swung into action and arrested the prime suspects in connection with the killing, the Police Commissioner said. The arrested suspects are Chibuzo Ike of Umuota Umuhu, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area and Ndubuisi Simon from Amakohia in Owerri North Local Government Area.

However, during the raid on the hide out of the gang, where the suspects were arrested, the AK 47 riffle and its magazine assigned to the slain Custom officer was recovered as well as other items.

The State Commissioner of Police also paraded over seven other suspects who were allegedly involved in criminal activities ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, car snatching, unlawful possession of firearms and cultism.

The Imo police Boss, however, warned all criminals in the state to desist from any act of criminality that would disturb the peace of the state this festive period, as the command had mapped out new strategies to stem the tide of crime in the state.
