TechnologyThe Federal Government is planning to boost investment in Nigeria’s technology to enable rapid detection of Improvised Explosive Devices.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, gave the hint on Tuesday after a meeting with the Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.

Speaking at a gathering with reporters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Onu stressed the need to develop rapidly through research and local production.

He said that the government would not disclose in detail, efforts being made in this regard but assured Nigerians that the proposed technology was guaranteed to aid security across the country.

The Minister’s announcement is part of plans by the Federal Government to employ new technology to quash the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

The Boko Haram sect has been behind several coordinated attacks by suicide bombers in villages and markets in the troubled northeast that killed hundreds of people which clearly bears the hallmark of the sect.
