Governor Adams Oshiomhole says the enforcement of tax laws would enable government at all levels provide basic needs for the people.
The Edo State Governor made the observation on Wednesday while speaking at a lecture organised by the National Defence College.
He expressed hope that Nigeria would develop faster when tax defaulters are prosecuted in order to serve as a deterrent to others.
Governor Oshiomhole said that the country was under a heavy debt burden as a result of a few rich individuals mismanaging the economy of the nation.
While advocating that tax defaulters be sent to prison, he said that some political leaders lack the passion and vision to lead, saying they were in office for the glamour and power attached to such offices.
The Commandant of the College and Convener of the Lecture, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade, implored participants to leverage on Governor Oshiomhole’s message in order to become strategic leaders.
The lecture was part of activities lined up for the training of participants at the National Defence College.
